Just back from a wonderful week leading Mindful photography workshop on the Outer Hebrides with Paul Sanders. What an incredible week it was! The weather was very kind to us in that we were treated to all seasons every few hours. From hail storms to huge swells, rainbows and blue skies.
These kind of weather conditions are conducive to photography. Beaches that are completely white after a hail storm, 15-foot waves showing the drama and power of the ocean, skies that change from second to second and rainbows which appear and disappear again seconds later. Everyone on the photography workshop fully embraced the conditions.
Staying at Lews Castle in Stornoway gave us the space and relaxation required after a day out in the landscape. I have to say that the castle was welcoming beyond the call of duty. I just love that islanders always make us feel so welcome.
Highlights included having a warming bowl of soup looking out to the expanse of Uig sands at the newly opened Uig Sands restaurant. Our very special meals at the amazing Digby Chick in Stornoway. And the Callanish Standing stones restaurant offering us shelter from the rain as well as beautiful homemade quiche for lunch. All in all a very successful week with everyone leaving delighted and happy and a little bit in love with the Hebrides!
